Painting- You Pick It Project

Assignment:

What do you want to paint?  First decide what type of painting you would like to make.  Next, choose the style you want to paint.

Major Types of Painting

A landscape is an outdoor scene. A landscape artist uses paint to create not only land, water, and clouds but air, wind, and sunlight.How many of these types of painting have you tried—did you ever paint a local landscape or draw a self-portrait? Some paintings combine types. For example, a portrait might also include details of a still life.

A portrait is an image of a person or animal. Besides showing what someone looks like, a portrait often captures a mood or personality.

A still life shows objects, such as flowers, food, or musical instruments. A still life reveals an artist's skill in painting shapes, light, and shadow.

A real life scene captures life in action. It could show a busy street, a beach party, a dinner gathering, or anyplace where living goes on.

Major Styles of Painting

This is to get you thinking about what your style is.

CHOOSE one type of painting, and CHOOSE one style of painting.

Google search to find an artist that you like who uses that style.  

Open Microsoft Word or Google Docs.  Title your document with your chosen art style (ex. Abstract Expressionism.  Place your name in the header of the document.  Write at least 6 complete sentences in your own words that describe the art style and why you chose it.  Choose and artist that use the style you like.  Copy and paste a picture of the artist and one of their painting into your word document.  Lastly, find a reference photo of what you would like to paint.  The reference photo needs to be realistic, and you will adjust the image to your style when you sketch it out.  Print and staple the sentences, and photos, and turn in to Mrs. Hurd.
